Intellectual and Entrepreneurship Development

This domain introduces learning approaches and skills to enhance students’ academic excellence, cultivate interest pursuits, understand science and technology, value creativity and innovation, and acquire knowledge from different sources. We aim to help students to identify his/her talent to be an entrepreneur through the learning process. Programmes include various talks / workshops / projects on topics of university learning, global perspectives, market trends and entrepreneurship skills.

Lingnan High-Flyers Programme 2021-2022  越嶺計劃 2021-22

Objectives:
At the end of the programme, students will be able to:

1. Understand the concept of time management,
2. Improve their time management control between study, job and social services

Description:

Everyone has different roles and duties in the society. It is always a big challenge to tackle with how to manage your time effectively and efficiently. In this session, the speaker will share with you his own experience and let students know more about how to get a balance between job and social services.

Objectives:

Description:

The world is changing rapidly. Somehow we are not able to foresee what challenges we will face tomorrow, so the skillsets of tackling problems are important. The speaker will introduce the concepts and share how "Design Thinking" helps him in his service and business world in order to let students understand more about the whole structured approach process - to empathy, define, ideate, prototype and test through daily examples. Better personal development for each participant is the aim of this workshop.

Description:

In an artificial intelligence (AI) era leading to a rapidly changing world of work, someone says that being entrepreneurs is the best way out. Wofoo leaders’ Network believes entrepreneurial knowledge and skillset of students should be enhanced in this fast-changing world, in particular through innovation and technology. Our speaker will share with students about his own experience of being an entrepreneur. At the end of the workshop, students could share their start-up ideas with our speaker to explore how to find pathway from ideas to execution, and even impact creation.

The gem and jade culture is extensive and profound and has a long history. Since ancient times, people have loved gems and jades as symbols of power and wealth.

But what do you know about gems and jades and how they form? Do you know the difference and connection between gems and jades? Do you want to know the appreciation of gems and jades? Do you want to know the cultural bearing role of gems and jades? Come on, that's what the discussion is about.

The 4.6 billion years old Earth has experienced five mass extinctions due to natural cataclysmic events: (1) Ordovician Mass Extinction, (2) Devonian Mass Extinction, (3) Permian Mass Extinction, (4) Triassic-Jurassic Mass Extinction and (5) K-T Mass Extinction. What’s the dominated factors and results of these extinctions? How did the geologists reveal the Paleo-events?

Significantly, we are going through the 6th mass extinction, i.e. Man-made Mass Extinction Crisis, at modern times. How does it endanger the sustainable development of mankind? How can we reduce the harm of human activities to the earth?

Objectives:
At the end of each session, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate the techniques required in English public speaking and refine it through constant practice
2. Develop competent listening and evaluation skills for the delivery of constructive feedback
3. Identify the resources and name the channels and opportunities available for students to develop as good communicators and leaders

Description:

The whole idea of Toastmasters Training is to develop students' English speaking skills effectively through delivering prepared and impromptu speeches in front of groups and by working with others in a supportive atmosphere. Participants are also involved in providing feedback and evaluation to one another's presentation. Students who are keen to acquire further qualifications in public speaking and leadership can join the Lingnan University Toastmasters Club as international member, joining speech contests and workshops, and continue to work on personal and professional development through Toastmasters education program: the Toastmasters Pathways learning experience.
